Kompass Diagnostics, a Chicago-based developer of point-of-care diagnostics for reproductive care, has raised $1.6 million in seed financing. The round was led by Bass Ventures with participation from Kakao Ventures and Digital Healthcare Partners.

Kompass is building a compact diagnostic platform that enables laboratory-quality blood testing from a simple finger-prick sample as an alternative to traditional phlebotomy and central laboratory testing. The system uses semiconductor chips to measure electrochemical signals from enzymatic reactions, supporting biochemical, immunoassay, and molecular testing on a single device with sensitivity on par with state-of-the-art laboratories.

The company’s first product, IDA, is a rapid hormone analyzer designed to be used by both fertility specialists and patients. With IDA, blood hormone levels can be measured within 10 minutes from a finger-prick sample. Hormone monitoring is essential in gynecology and fertility care, especially during procedures such as IUI and IVF, where tests must be conducted frequently to achieve optimal outcomes and must be available within hours to guide time-sensitive treatment decisions. Today, clinics operate in-house labs which are costly and require patients to visit in person. IDA introduces an alternative, reducing costs while making testing more convenient and accessible.

“Hormone monitoring during ovarian stimulation is one of the most burdensome parts of fertility treatment, particularly for patients living far from urban fertility centers,” said Mingoo Kim, CEO of Kompass Diagnostics. “IDA reimagines this process by enabling testing at home, expanding access for more patients and allowing clinicians to scale more cost effectively.”
